Hyosung TNC Presents Scalable Bio-based Innovation at Première Vision Paris

Company’s new regen™ BIO elastane derived from sugarcane now in production

August 25, 2026; Seoul, South Korea – The next step in sustainable materials is making innovation work at scale. At Première Vision Paris taking place this September 1-3, Hyosung TNC, a complete sustainable textile solution provider and leading manufacturer of elastane by market share, will showcase its latest developments made from renewable resources designed to meet the performance and production demands of today’s apparel industry.

Under the theme “Facing Fashion Forward”, Première Vision Paris’ September edition will spotlight how technologies are moving beyond future possibilities to become practical, scalable tools for enhancing performance today.

One of these scalable technologies, which was developed to eliminate reliance on fossil fuels in the production of elastane, is Hyosung’s new Bio BDO derived from sugarcane at its fully integrated production facilities in Vietnam where raw sugar from sugarcane verified through the VIVE Sustainable Supply Program, is fermented into bio-BDO (a primary elastane ingredient) then transformed into Bio-PTMG and ultimately regen™ BIO Elastane for apparel applications.

Hyosung has officially begun commercial production of its 50,000-ton-per-year Bio-BDO (Butanediol and primary elastane ingredient) plant built in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Backed by a total investment of $1 billion, the project is equipped with the infrastructure to expand its production capacity up to 200,000 tons annually in line with future market growth.

“Sustainability is no longer just about setting goals, it’s about having technologies that can deliver at scale,” said Simon Whitmarsh-Knight, Hyosung TNC Marketing and Sustainability Director-Textiles. “Our focus is on making bio-based elastane a viable choice for the industry today, with a scalable system that can help move renewable resources from an alternative to a more mainstream material solution.”

Identical to conventional BDO, bio-BDO is a drop-in elastane component, allowing regen™ BIO Elastane to be exactly the same as conventional elastane regarding performance and quality over time including elongation and recovery. Keeping production in Vietnam creates an integrated vertical supply chain, helping to reduce transportation requirements across the supply chain. This localization also builds in risk mitigation and speed, helping to prevent supply disruptions.

On Wednesday, September 2 at 10:00AM, Whitmarsh-Knight will join a panel talk titled From Oil Dependency to Feedstock Sovereignty: Fashion’s Hardest Transition demonstrating why the transition to bio-based feedstocks represent the next major step for the fashion industry, and how Hyosung is turning that transition into commercial scale.

Recognizing that materials made from bio-based feedstocks are not the sustainable choice for all brands, Hyosung offers a full portfolio of 100% recycled and elastane, nylon and polyester with functionality built in.

As more consumers are demanding more cooling properties in their apparel, Hyosung’s 100% recycled regen™ Aqua-X Nylon and regen™ Askin Polyester, help brands provide the cool-to-touch comfort with low-impact benefits their customers are asking for. And for consumers looking to add a touch of quiet luxury to their apparel that fashionably take them from studio to street, Hyosung’s new regen™ Luchera Nylon creates a distinctive deep luster with a soft touch and everyday comfort.

To help show attendees better experience Hyosung’s sustainable solutions, the company will display a collection of concept garments made with its performance fibers designed by its Fashion Design Center along with curated fabrics to touch and feel at its booth in Hall 2, Booth 2S38.
