Team Member Spotlight on Kay Kim, Hyosung Global Marketing – Spandex

We are happy to shine our Team Member Spotlight on Kay Kim!  Kay joined Hyosung as part of its newly created Fashion Design Center (FDC) Team in 2018, which Hyosung TNC established to survey industry trends and present a vision to our customers. She is now part of the Hyosung TNC Global Marketing Team to support major brands and retailers with providing information about our company values, strength, and growth through our multi-functional CREORA® Spandex and planet-friendly regen™ Spandex products. You may have had the great opportunity to meet Kay at Functional Fabric Fair in Portland, OR and/or NYC. If not, we hope you enjoy getting to know her a bit in the below Q & A she was kind to participate in!

How did you get your start the textile industry?

Growing up, I was fascinated by the fashion industry collecting all kinds of fashion magazines and hiding them under my bed. At first, I wanted to be a fashion model, but my height stopped at 168cm, so I chose to be a fashion designer instead.

What led you to Hyosung?

I have always known about Hyosung due to its many logos displayed at the functional fabric section at fabric markets. However, I never thought of myself working for the company. So, it was surprising and hard to believe when I heard that Hyosung was setting up its FDC and hire some fashion designers. As soon as I heard the news, I applied for the job to see if it was actually true, and here I am!

What do you like best about your new role at Hyosung?

What I like most about my new job is that you never get bored. I have the fortune to work with many different brands and different people, so my work has lots of variety, which is inspiring.

How do you think textile industry has changed over the last several years?

I think the industry has become more conservative over the last few years. Everyone wants something new and innovative but is also reluctant to be the pioneer. Our is to provide stories that resonate with our customers to help encourage them to try new things.  

Do you have a favorite Hyosung fiber and if so, what is it?

Sorry, can’t pick one! Too many to choose from! 🙂

Who/what inspires you and why?

Everyone who is happy with him/herself. I believe you can choose to be happy, regardless of the situation. Being able to do so shows real strength. 

What do you enjoy doing on your time away from work?

I like staying home and being in nature. So, whenever I have time, I enjoy being a real homebody or an enthusiastic hiker.

What are you looking forward to this year?

I really hope to just make the most of each day! 

Where is one place you’ve never been, but is high on your list to visit?

Lombok, Indonesia.

For someone who has never been to Seoul, what is on the top of your list of places not to miss?

For hikers, I would recommend a ‘sunset hike at Mt. Yongmasan~Mt.Achasan’,  or ‘sunset cable car ride at Mt. Namsan’ for non-hikers.
