Hyosung’s New Fashion Design Center Delivers Textile Trend and Design Inspiration

For those of you who stopped by to see us at ISPO Munich, you may have experienced a new look and feel in our booth – thanks to our globetrotting Fashion Design Center.

In our ongoing effort to consistently bring value and creative solutions to our wide network of partners, Hyosung TNC established the Fashion Design Center (FDC) in early 2018 to survey industry trends and present a vision to our customers.

The FDC, comprised of 9 members and growing, travels the U.S., Europe and Asia surveying cutting-edge brands & retailers, and researching consumer insights. From this information, the team forms bi-annual mega trends (Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter) that comprise forward-thinking trend reports, storyboards and even sample garments incorporating Hyosung specialty materials, which are presented at key trade shows and customer presentations.

According to Lewis Hong, FDC General Manager, “Our short term objective is to help our customers understand how to commercially use our special technical yarn products effectively by providing customized services such as raw material research & development, and garment design & development, which are in step with global market trends.  Furthermore, our long term objective is to provide game-changing research & development collaboration with our global value chains, while eventually offering a full package system – from yarn, to design, to cut & sew for global brands as a total solution provider.”

FDC presented its three mega trends for SS 21 at ISPO Munich in January.

  • Holistic: Holistic sees the art of simplifying evolve with deeper, heartfelt emotion. Naturalism and minimalism are full of life, resulting in products made with a longer-term focus – Better with age.
  • Every Day Tech: The story of ‘fashion meets function’ starts from the notion of pursuing harmony between human and environment. With rapidly changing climate and air pollution, apparel used for body protection has become mandatory.
  • Digital Haze: Blurring the lines between virtual and real life –a youthful trend, which draws inspiration from digital aesthetics blended with fantasy to lend a futuristic mood to everyday wear to statement pieces.

The FDC creatively merchandised the ISPO booth according to each of the mega trends and sub-trends where specific graphics, fabrics and garments reflective of the trends were featured.

Stay tuned for highlights and photos of our time at ISPO Munich in a forthcoming post. In the meantime, we are looking forward to what the FDC shares with us next!
