along with ISPO Textrends awards

November 21, 2023; Seoul, South Korea – Hyosung is looking forward to gathering at ISPO Munich from November 28-30th, presenting its certified-sustainable and multi-function textile solutions designed to deliver substantial advantages throughout the entire value chain. During the three-day event, attendees will have the opportunity to discover the materials and styles that prominent apparel brands will integrate into their collections at Hyosung’s stand located in Hall A1, booth 335. Hyosung will highlight the following.

Continuous Innovation – elevating customized and certified sustainable textile solutions

Creating a more powerful, traceable sustainable story, Hyosung is expanding its creora® Bio-Based elastane offering to include various options for the yarn to be made with a higher content of renewable resources.

Hyosung was the first company to commercially introduce USDA and SGS-certified creora® Bio-Based elastane made with 30% renewable resources in 2021, which has been successfully adopted by leading global brands. According to an independent 3rd party LCA, the manufacture of 1kg creora® Bio-Based elastane reduces its carbon footprint by 20% as compared to the production 1kg of conventional spandex.

“We are excited to follow the success of our creora® Bio-Based elastane with the next phase of third-party certified fibres made with a higher content of renewable resources to meet consumer demand for traceable, bio-based products,” said Simon Whitmarsh-Knight, Global Marketing Director – Textiles.

As part of its customized sustainable textile solution offering, Hyosung has also added a new GRS-Certified, 100% post-consumer recycled nylon made from discarded fishing nets to its Ocean Protection initiative.

Third party LCA data shows that the manufacture of 1 kg regen ocean post-consumer recycled nylon made with discarded fishing nets reduces CO2 emissions by 73%, fossil resource use by 75%, and water consumption by 98% compared to the manufacture of 1 kg of conventional nylon. To accompany brands’ specific needs, Hyosung also offers a blend of 50% post-consumer recycled nylon from discarded fishing nets and 50% virgin nylon.

To meet consumer desire for sustainable apparel that offers comfort with performance benefits, Hyosung has uniquely added multi-function properties in the manufacture of its certified recycled fibres. For instance, Hyosung’s 100% post-consumer recycled regen Askin polyester offers cool touch, UV protection and quick drying benefits. Its 100% recycled regen Xanadu is a mechanical stretch fibre made with a blend of recycled post-consumer PET and corn-based materials, allowing brands functional apparel from mono-materials.

Both commercialized products and fabrics made with creora® Bio-Based elastane, regen Ocean nylon, and regen Ocean robic high-tenacity nylon, along with additional 100% recycled regen multi-function fibres will be on display in the Hyosung booth.

Portuguese Mill Collaboration – addressing European nearshoring trend

A major evolving trend is for European brands to increasingly source high quality, and certified sustainable textiles from European mills to take advantage of shorter lead times, faster delivery times, and lower transportation costs.

As a result, Hyosung is partnering with seven mills based in Portugal to introduce new luxury knits made with its USDA and SGS-certified creora® Bio-Based elastane, RCS-certified 100% recycled creora® regen elastane and the soft-stretch creora® EasyFlex elastane. A special Made in Portugal area will be featured in the Hyosung ISPO booth, for brands looking for certified-sustainable luxury materials made in Europe.

According to saidAlexandra Araújo, CEO of Portuguese mill, LMA, its customers look for innovative fabrics and believes Hyosung is the right partner as it allows LMA to offer new properties to its vast range of functional fabrics.

“We developed a new fabric made with Hyosung soft-stretch creora® EasyFlex elastane, which allows you to experience maximum comfort due to its superb soft hand feel and stretchability,” said Araújo. “We think that our customers will value the great advantage that creora® Easyflex elastane can bring as it allows to simplify sizing classification of garments. We’ve also developed a new fabric that combines organic cotton with creora® Bio-Based elastane that combines comfort whilst decreasing environmental impact.”

“Portugal is a key supply market for global luxury brands,” said Whitmarsh-Knight. “It has a reputation for producing high-end textiles with a focus on natural fibres and traditional manufacturing methods. We are very excited to be partnering with many of the best Portuguese mills on the development of new luxury and traceable textile innovation.”

ISPO Textrends Top 10

Hyosung’s RCS-certified 100% recycled creora® regen elastane made from pre-consumer industrial waste was selected in the stringent ISPO Textrends jury’s top ten list in the base layer category. Hyosung was the first company to offer a 100 % recycled elastane introduced in 2020. The fiber is featured in ‘ISPO Textrends selection’ awarded material – as part of the new FishTale swimwear fabric made from an 80/20 blend of Hyosung regen® ocean 100% post-consumer nylon made from discarded fishing nets, and RCS-certified 100% recycled creora® regen elastane produced by key collaboration partner Hungyen. Hyosung’s Iceskin, a high-performance nylon designed for rapid, long-lasting coolness and exceptional comfort, also received a Textrends selection award for a woven outerwear material made with the fibre. All awarded ISPO Textrend fabrics will displayed on the Hyosung booth at ISPO.
