Introducing Jessé Ruiz de Moura, South America Technical Marketing Manager
We are shifting our Employee Spotlight to a valuable team member who is based in our Hyosung Brazil manufacturing facility – Jessé Ruiz de Moura, South America Technical Marketing Manager. Jessé has been an integral part of Hyosung Brazil for ten years and is one of the company’s biggest cheerleaders! His primary role is to connect South American brands with Hyosung customers/mills that develop fabrics made with our portfolio of creora® spandex fibers. Jessé is very creative when it comes to promotional events and videos that support the company and our creora® spandex, which you can find on his LinkedIn and Instagram pages. And when he is not busy working at Hyosung, you can find him outdoors exploring the vast beauty of his country. We hope the following Q & A will help you get to know Jessé a bit, and that you get the opportunity to meet him in person one day.
How did you get your start in the textile industry?
My mother was a seamstress, so I grew up around sewing machines and all sorts of textiles. I loved being in that environment! My decision to study Textile Engineering was based on the affinity I had in that area. After five years of study, I went to do my internship with a textile-based company (nowadays a customer) and it was like being infected by a love virus – I don’t see myself working in any other area.
What led you to Hyosung and when did you join the company?
Hyosung has always been an outstanding company to me – one that seeks ongoing innovation in its products. When the company opened its creora® spandex plant in Brazil, it provided me with the opportunity to share my experience in the textile industry. I started my journey with the company in 2012, ten years ago now.
What do you like best about your position with the company?
The challenges that Hyosung proposes to me every year are what move me within the company. Currently, my primary activity is to connect major brands in the textile apparel market with our customers who produce fabrics made with our fibers, which I find simply incredible. Supporting our customers and helping to develop new business makes me very excited.
Can you share a memorable/proud moment you’ve experienced at Hyosung?
I joined Hyosung when the company held 20% of the Brazilian spandex market. With a lot of effort and dedication from the team, we’ve managed to currently reach around 70% market share – and it makes me very proud to be part of this result.
How do you think the textile industry and Hyosung have changed over the last 2 to 3 years?
The textile industry changed a lot after the COVID-19 virus affected the world. The textile industry and Hyosung had to adapt to the new normal – conducting business over the internet, and shopping online, not to mention the warp speed at which information flows throughout the world. And end consumers changed their consumption habits in terms of the apparel they wanted to wear due to having to work from home. They wanted high-quality multi-functional apparel that blends comfort and versatility with style. This trend continues.
Another very important aspect that gained strength is sustainability – prompting the search for products that make less of an impact on the environment given increased consumer consumption and increasingly scarce natural resources. And due to the amount of textile waste dumped in the environment, we no longer have enough space for it, nor should we be dumping it anyway. Hyosung is in an unrelenting search for new products that can add high value to current consumer need by developing new sustainable products that combine innovation and technology to ensure conscious consumption.
Has sustainable fiber innovation made an impact on Hyosung Brazil?
Certainly! We are in a relentless quest to improve consumption in our country. The broad assortment of sustainable fibers that Hyosung has developed, and continues to develop, is very important for Hyosung Brazil’s customers, bringing differentials that other fiber suppliers do not have.
Do you have a favorite creora® fiber and if so, what is it?
All of Hyosung’s technologies are wonderful (I am supposed to say that), but our recent release, creora® bio-based spandex, is my new favorite fiber. It combines the main characteristic of our creora® product, which is its ‘power’, with sustainability by reducing the use of our planet’s scarce resources. Renewable sources fascinate me, as does taking care of and preserving our planet. Leaving resources for our next generations is a very important mission.
Who inspires you and why?
My main idol is my mother. Her courage and willpower to make everything happen continually inspire me.
I know you love the outdoors! What are some of the outdoor activities you like to do?
Yes, I love nature in general. I much prefer the tranquility of nature to the sounds of the parties. I love hiking in the middle of the woods, climbing mountains, and running outdoors.
What is a ‘must see’ and a ‘must experience’ for someone visiting Brazil for the first time?
Brazil goes beyond what is seen in the news abroad – we are much more than Carnival. The natural beauty that the country has is fantastic. Some places that I highly recommend visiting for those who come to Brazil are: Bonito, a place with transparent rivers and calm water located in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul; the beautiful beaches in the state of Santa Catarina are not to be missed, and one of the seven wonders of the world – the waterfalls of Foz do Iguaçu are truly a WONDER!
Where is one place you’ve never been, but is high on your list to visit?
My list of places to visit only grows! Maybe I have to retire soon to be able to visit them all “haha”! A place I’m very interested in knowing about is Thailand. Maybe that’s my next travel destination.
Many thanks, Jessé! Brazil is definitely on my bucket list of places to visit!
