Introducing Cecilia Chen, Marketing Manager, Hyosung Taiwan

We are happy to introduce a recently new member of our Hyosung Global Brand Marketing Team – Cecilia Chen! Cecilia brings over 15 years of experience in the textile industry to help Hyosung support and strengthen brand and retailer collaborations in Taiwan. She also manages joint development and promotional programs with key industry partners. If you’ve not had the opportunity to meet Cecilia on your travels, you can get to know her a bit in the following Q & A.

How did you find your way into the textile industry?

My major is international business in university. In textiles, I can be involved from the development of fabrication to staying at the factory to know how the fabrics are made and visiting garment vendors to know the final process for a finished product. The most fascinating part of working in textiles is the moment when we see the apparel on the shelves of a retailer store. Of course, I will grab some pieces into the shopping cart and take them home! This is quite different compared to the electronics industry where most of the younger generation would like to work in these days as product development in electronics needs an engineering background.

What led you to Hyosung?

I’ve worked with tier 2 fabric suppliers for over 15 years. Along my career path I’ve been looking for work with a company with global deployments in both production allocations and marketing channels in different segments. Hyosung has a diversified product portfolio including spandex, polyester and nylon for textiles and a leader the market. So, it’s exciting to have been given the opportunity to join!

What do you like best about your role at Hyosung?

I enjoying playing the hybrid roles of marketing and sales functions at Hyosung in Taiwan market. Based on my experience and knowledge, I’m able to effectively and efficiently communicate with fabric mills to provide practical solutions regarding what they most care about while adopting new raw materials. In addition, I enjoy building our relationship with brand customers – including both liaison offices and headquarters – in addition to facilitating the engagement of each project.

Do you have a favorite Hyosung fiber and if so, what is it?

Our sustainable regen™ Spandex and regen™ BIO Spandex. Recycled polyester and nylon have been discussed for quite some time, however our recycled and plant-based spandex fibers have allowed our entire fiber range to be fully sustainable.

What is your favorite apparel brand?

lululemon impresses me with their design and the premium raw material they use. I always have several pieces of the same style I love in different colors.

Who/what inspires you and why?

There are lot of senior mentors whom I am fortunate to have met on my career path. The spirit and dedication they bring to making each fabrication perfectly – from development, sample and bulk production – always inspires me. That along with their devotion to offering the best product to delight customers.

What activities do you enjoy outside of work?

I’m not much of a work-life-balance person. ☹ Taking leave to travel with family once or twice a year is what I usually enjoy outside of work.

What are you looking forward to this year?

Well, it’s just the timing after the latest universal and reciprocal tariff policy, which has shocked the market to be unprecedentedly volatile. I hope the resilience of the market can be expected as soon as possible.

Where is one place you’ve never been, but is high on your list to visit?

Countries in northern Europe for the Aurora Borealis.

For someone who has never been to Taiwan, where do you think on must visit?

Taroko National Park (Taroko Gorge) is my favorite place that travelers must visit. It’s a popular spot for hiking. Even though I’m not a lover of hiking, I’ve still gone on family trips consecutively for a couple of years. It’s a place where you can completely relax from the city with the beauty of natural scenes. There is a very nice hotel in the park that visitors can stay one or two nights. However, it is very sad that the place was drastically impacted by the earthquake in April 2024, so it’s only partially open now and needs several years to recover for the entire hiking route.

Many thanks for your time, Cecilia!
